I had a lot to think about that evening as I drove down Lookout Mountain.

First of all, it was obvious to me that Walter Goodkind was responsible for the missing files, and that Jennifer Goodkind was somehow responsible for the hack. But more than that, she’d been acting even stranger over dinner than she had the day before at the Legacy offices. I was pretty sure she was hiding something else… but was that something murder?

Stacy Hudson had also provided me with two hot leads, even though she probably didn’t realize it. First, it was obvious that Jack Sloan hadn’t told us the whole truth. He didn’t mention that he was best buddies with Hunter Flagg, and that they rode motorcycles together, and that made me wonder what else Mr. Sloan was hiding. And then, of course, there was Clint Fykes. From what Stacy had said, the guy should’ve been the prime suspect. I mean, a bona fide weirdo and Samantha Goodkind’s stalker? Oh, we definitely had to chat with Mr. Fykes.

I called Tim, put my iPhone on speaker, and waited for him to answer, which he did on the second ring.

“Hey, Harry. How are you doing?” Tim’s voice was bright and chipper.

“That’s the question I should be asking you, Tim. How are you feeling?”

“Well, I got some good sleep today, so I’m feeling pretty good. Why? What d’you need?”

“Good, glad to hear it. Listen, Tim, I have somebody I need you to track down for me. His name is Clint Fykes.”

“Fykes? That’s a weird name. Can’t be too many of them. Shouldn’t be a problem.”

“And if my sources are correct,” I said, “the person behind the name is pretty weird, too. Just find out if he still lives in Chattanooga or if he’s locked away somewhere.”

“Geez, Harry. You expect the guy to be in jail? You haven’t even talked to him yet.”

“Just find him for me, please, Tim?”

“You got it. Oh, and I have some great news. I found the hacker who stole the files.”

“Wow, that was fast. Good job, Tim.”

“Oh, it was no big deal. Like I said before, the computers did all the hard work while I was zonked out. I was able to find a match for the tag. Would you like me to arrange a meeting?”

“You can do that?” I asked.

“Sure thing. We just pose as a new client looking for a hacker to do some work.”

I have to admit that it had been a lot easier than I’d expected, but I wasn’t about to complain.

“Okay, Tim. Yes, see if you can set it up, for later tonight, if you can. In the meantime, I have a date with Henry Finkle.”

“Oh dear, that doesn’t sound good. Good luck with that. I’ll see what I can do and let you know.”

I was feeling a whole lot better after Tim had hung up. I was going to get to talk to the hacker before the police did, and I was hopeful that he would lead me to the killer.
